FOTO SAFARI - AVES
Torres del Paine National Park is one of the most amazing parks in Patagonia. The landscape of this majestic park, covering a vast area of 242,242 hectares, offers plentiful chances to observe a wide variety of birdlife as well as many mammals.
Our bird watching programme takes visitors across the park allowing for wonderful views of the imposing Paine Massif as well as offering gentle walks through the beautiful southern terrain in order to observe the numerous birds that can be found in the park: more than 115 bird species have been recorded.
There are various habitats within the park and we have subdivided the area into the sectors of Lake Pingo, Lake Nordenskj öld and Lake Paine. We will spend time in each sector focussing on a particular species as well as spotting Anseriformes (ducks, geese and swans), Passeriformes (wrens, finches and “songbirds”) as well as being on the constant look out for other larger birds such as the condor that is so emblematic of the region.
One of our particular objectives will be to spot the wonderful Magellanic Woodpecker which is often seen in the Lake Pingo sector on the north-western side of the park. In this sector we can take a longer walk along the River Pingo to spot the woodpecker as well as other birds such as the incredible Torrent Duck. This area is also home to the shy Chilean huemul deer which is one of the national symbols of Chile.
